Entrance Exam
To gain admission to an MBBS program in India, students need to appear for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) exam. NEET is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) for admission to undergraduate medical courses in all medical colleges in India, including AIIMS and JIPMER.
Eligibility
There are various types of eligibility for MBBS Admission. Details are given below.
- Educational Qualification: Candidates must have completed their 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as main subjects. The minimum aggregate percentage required may vary between colleges, but it is usually around 50% to 60%
- Age Limit: Candidates must have completed 17 years of age at the time of admission or will complete the age on or before December 31 of the year of admission. The upper age limit is usually 25 years for General category candidates and 30 years for reserved category candidates.
- Nationality: Candidates must be citizens of India or Overseas Citizens of India (OCI) or Persons of Indian Origin (PIO).
- NEET Exam: Candidates must qualify in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) for MBBS admission. NEET is a national-level entrance exam conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA)
- Other Requirements: Some colleges may have additional eligibility criteria such as minimum marks in each of the subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), domicile requirements, and physical fitness criteria.
Admission Process

- Admit Card: Candidates who have successfully registered for the NEET exam can download the admit card from the official website.

- Counseling and Seat Allotment: Candidates who are included in the merit list are called for counseling and seat allotment. The counseling process is conducted by the Medical Counseling Committee (MCC). During counseling, candidates are required to choose their preferred college and course based on their rank and availability of seats.
- Document Verification: Candidates are required to produce original documents for verification during counseling. The documents include the NEET scorecard, 10+2 mark sheet, birth certificate, identity proof, and other relevant certificates.
- Medical Examination and Admission: Candidates who have been allotted seats need to undergo a medical examination to ensure that they meet the physical fitness requirements for the program. After successful completion of the medical examination, candidates can pay the admission fees to secure their seat in the college.
